The Salvation Army in Balderton reintroduces The Listening Post at Newark market place

An international charity has reintroduced a post-pandemic strategy to support the community’s mental health and well-being.

Sarah Bosworth, community mission facilitator at Salvation Army, Balderton, has been out in Newark Market Place for the past six weeks offering others her time and advice.

The Listening Post is a strategy that started after lockdown at the Salvation Army in Balderton, to invite those feeling lonely, isolated or with problems, to talk and enter a safe space.

The initiative has been reintroduced this week as Sarah wanted to be there and repay the community.

For the past few weeks, Sarah has been at the Market Place selling the War Cry magazines and raising funds for the Protestant Christian church and charity.

“I don’t want people to think that they have to give me money, we are thinking of ways of talking to the community, finding out what they need, what the challenges are and see what we can do as the Salvation Army and the church to help our town.

“The idea is to invite anyone who is feeling lonely or isolated or anyone who is having problems to feel like they have someone to talk to who is not a close relative, they provide a safe space.

“I will often pray for people if they would like that and just listen to them. I think a lot of people are struggling with their mental health.”

Sarah will be at the Market Place every Wednesday between 8am and 11am.
