‘His time has run out’: Eddie Jordan now believes 244-race driver no longer has a future in Formula 1

There are a very limited number of seats on the Formula 1 grid and you have to be at the top of your game to survive right now.

Fernando Alonso was the latest driver to sign a new contract for 2025 and beyond, closing off another place on the grid.

Speaking on the Formula For Success Podcast, former team principal Eddie Jordan has suggested that one current driver’s time in the sport is coming to an end.

The front of the grid is beginning to take shape, with Red Bull and Mercedes the only teams yet to confirm their full line-ups for 2025.

However, the teams at the back are now in a position to start considering their options and seeing if they can improve their pairing.

One team that already has a perfect option waiting on the sidelines is Visa Cash App RB.

Liam Lawson proved last season during his five-race stint that he’s ready for a full-time F1 drive.

Unfortunately, that might be bad news for Daniel Ricciardo and Eddie Jordan believes his time has run out in the sport.

After returning to replace Nyck de Vries last year, he’s failed to make the impression many expected him to up against Yuki Tsunoda.

Eddie Jordan suggests Daniel Ricciardo’s time in Formula 1 is coming to an end

After four races this season, speculation is already growing around Daniel Ricciardo’s future.

There were previously suggestions that Ricciardo might lose this seat before the Miami Grand Prix.

Liam Lawson – his obvious replacement – had to deny these claims via his management, but the fact that there’s already talk surrounding how long the Australian will still be in Formula 1 is a real worry.

After closing the gap to Yuki Tsunoda in qualifying in Japan a poor start and momentary lapse in concentration saw his race end after just a few corners.

Jordan believes that Ricciardo’s time on the grid is running out, but still thinks this will be a big loss for the sport.

His personality is infectious and ideally, he would still be involved in Formula 1 even if he’s no longer driving.

Visa Cash App RB face a tough decision if Daniel Ricciardo’s form doesn’t improve

Asked about the 244-race F1 driver, Jordan said: “I think his time has run out, he has not done enough for me to warrant a move to the Red Bull team.

“In fact, I’m not sure he’s done enough for me to be able to stay where he is.

“So, he’s another person who will be a great loss to Formula 1, so I hope he’s able to stay around either inside a team or outside a team.

“I still believe that there’s a great place for Daniel Ricciardo, either on TV or in commentaries or whatever it is.

“Of course, it’s not the same as driving the car, but if you’re not able to win or be on the podium or to do great things in the car, well then why not look at another alternative?”

Ricciardo has to prove to Jordan and many others in the paddock that he deserves more time in F1 beyond this season.

While Ricciardo is unlikely to achieve his dream of returning to Red Bull, he still has a lot to offer a Formula 1 team.

RB will want to bring in a young driver soon to prove to the rest of the Junior Program that there are opportunities to progress.

Tsunoda has been driving so well that he could be poached by another team and that may open up the space.

But the last thing Ricciardo needs is a rookie coming into the team and beating him in 2025.
