Report: £32m Tottenham player hasn't been the ‘easiest of characters' for staff behind the scenes

It’s now been shared that one Tottenham Hotspur player isn’t necessarily the easiest of characters behind the scenes when things aren’t going well.

Ange Postecoglou’s arrival the club this season has been the mark of a new era, and the whole feeling around Tottenham has changed.

The ‘toxic’ ending of Antonio Conte’s tenure has long been forgotten and there’s fresh reason for optimism around north London.

Perhaps that is being tested a little right now, in a period in which it almost feels as if Spurs are meandering.

Despite having so much on the line, fighting for fourth position with Aston Villa, Tottenham’s performances have largely been indifferent.

Perhaps that is best summarised by Son Heung-min’s early sub last weekend, who hasn’t quite been the same since he returned from the Asian Cup.

Tottenham feel like they need an injection of desire or grit, and perhaps Richarlison’s return to fitness could provide that.

That being said, Spurs did once again decide that they didn’t need Sergio Reguilon’s help again this season.

Tottenham staff believe Sergio Reguilon can be slightly difficult behind the scenes

Just like last campaign, Reguilon has been loaned out, surplus to requirements at this parent club.

And with the £32m-defender now thriving during his time at Brentford, The Athletic have just shared a report regarding his future.

The report states that Reguilon will return to Spurs after the season, where he has one year on his contract.

And as well as that, the report has also provided some details on how Reguilon is considered behind the scenes at Tottenham.

The Spaniard is said to have started very well under Jose Mourinho initially, and was a positive character around Hotspur Way.

However, there is a perception around the club that Reguilon isn’t the ‘easiest of characters’ when things aren’t going so well or he’s not in the team at Tottenham.

Of course, that perhaps explains why neither Conte or Postecoglou decided to keep the talented full-back around as back-up this season or last.

Sergio Reguilon perhaps isn’t best suited to the inverted role Destiny Udogie plays, but he could have certainly helped the squad this campaign.

All that being said, Gary Neville has recently admitted that he’s been ‘mesmerised’ by two Tottenham players this season.
