Cole Palmer has not taken long to prove his worth as a first team player in the Premier League.

Moving to Chelsea last summer from Manchester City has allowed him to feature regularly for the first time in his career, and theresults have been clear to see.

In what has likely been a week to remember for the England international, the same cannot be said for his former side following their Champions League exploits last night.

Manchester City out of the Champions League

The holders were dumped out the competition by Real Madrid, with former star Mateo Kovacic missing his penalty during the shootout.

Bernardo Silva was another who couldn’t find the net from 12 yards, with it eventually being their downfall in the competition.

Someone who up to now has made no mistake from the spot is Palmer, even if he is having to fight his own teammates at times to actually take them.

Both Nicolas Jackson and Noni Madueke made their case to take one on Monday, however the England international pulled rank and found the net again.

Penalties defeat shows Manchester City foolish to sell Cole Palmer

His 100% record from penalties will no doubt have left City fans frustrated that they let someone go who could have been crucial for them in the key moment last night.

Instead, they are currently preparing to face him at the weekend in the FA Cup semi-final, with the 21-year-old’s confidence surely at an all-time high right now.

Mauricio Pochettino did well to build his side around Palmer on Monday night, with the ball-winning strengths of the midfield duo behind him allowing his creative freedom to flourish.

It remains to be seen what plan Pep Guardiola comes up with to try and stop his former star at Wembley on Saturday.
