22-year-old Wolves star now only behind Rodri and Trent Alexander-Arnold for impressive statistic

Wolves have seen a host of top performers emerge this season under Gary O’Neil with one unlikely star ranking below only Rodri and Trent Alexander-Arnold in an impressive Premier League statistic.

What a season it’s been for Wolves, who have defied the odds that were placed against them at the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

Gary O’Neil took on an almost impossible job from Julen Lopetegui at Molineux, taking the reigns from the Spaniard days before the season opener after a summer that left the squad depleted due to the need to make sales.

Now comfortable in midtable, there is an encouraging project there for the 40-year-old to embark on in the Midlands, with a host of players proving their worth to the boss this term.

From Matheus Cunha to Mario Lemina, there is an extensive list of candidates for Wolves Player of the Season however, one of O’Neil’s less-used talents has proved just how potent he can be in the side in one impressive Premier League statistic.

Tommy Doyle ranks as one of the best in the Premier League in impressive statistic

Currently on loan from Manchester City, Tommy Doyle has shown glimpses of his talent at Wolves this term in a bid to impress enough to earn a permanent contract.

The 22-year-old made the move from the treble winners to Molineux on deadline day in the summer, arriving on a season-long loan with a £4.3m option to buy for the Old Gold to potentially capitalise on.

While the Englishman has been used sporadically by O’Neil, he’s still impressed when given the opportunity to, as relayed by one statistic.

Tommy Doyle could be a key part of Gary O’Neil’s squad next season

For all of the shortages that O’Neil’s squad have suffered this term, the arrival of Doyle certainly helped to pad out the options available to the manager in central midfield.

While Lemina and Joao Gomes stand above the rest as the boss’ favoured midfield pivot, the Englishman has been a reliable figure for O’Neil to turn to when needed, adding depth to the squad that is not evident in other positions.

The 22-year-old will certainly be eyeing a more solid role in the squad if Wolves are to make his move permanent, particularly when considering the company he is keeping with the statistic of his long ball accuracy.
