'He does a fantastic job': Sam Allardyce blown away by £7m West Ham player; likely to start tonight

West Ham United may have had their ups and down this season, but they’ve certainly improved in the Premier League compared to last year.

The Hammers are currently eighth in the table, on 48 points from 33 games, and are still in contention for securing European qualification next term.

David Moyes’ charges are just two points adrift of Newcastle and Manchester United, who are sixth and seventh respectively.

The Hammers are also still in the Europa League, although they have the unenviable task of trying to overturn a 2-0 deficit against Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night.

West Ham have a good squad with some top talents in their ranks, such as Michail Antonio, who has done so well for the Hammers over the past nine years.

The Hammers signed the 34-year-old from Nottingham Forest back in 2015 for a reported £7million.

Antonio has made 302 appearances, registering 79 goals and 41 assists.

Admittedly, he has endured a difficult season this time round, due to injuries.

However, there’s no doubt as to the quality he has brought to the West Ham front line.

Sam Allardyce has now praised the veteran striker on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast.

What has Sam Allardyce said about West Ham forward Michail Antonio?

“Michail Antonio, he’s just had a fantastic time at West Ham,” said Allardyce. “He does a fantastic job.”

Antonio has been there for the Hammers through thick and thin, and he continues to deliver for the club.

His contact reportedly runs until the end of the season but with the option of another year.

Therefore, as West Ham look for a long-term successor in attack, he can continue to contribute in claret and blue.

With the Hammers facing Bayer Leverkusen on Thursday night, Antonio looks set to start. Let’s hope he can provide some magic against Xabi Alonso’s giants.
