'Can't see that happening': Paul Merson shares his prediction for Everton vs Nottingham Forest clash

Paul Merson has shared his prediction for the crucial Premier League clash between Everton and Nottingham Forest at Goodison Park this weekend.

It is a huge clash on Merseyside. Of course, the game pits the two sides who have faced points deductions this season.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men sit one point above the bottom three. Meanwhile, Everton are one point and one place above Forest in the table.

Forest certainly have the edge when it comes to form right now. They have lost just one of their last five games. And that defeat came in a decent showing at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Paul Merson predicts Everton vs Nottingham Forest result

Everton however, have lost four of their last six fixtures. And the 6-0 loss to Chelsea on Monday night was alarming considering the problems Mauricio Pochettino’s side have had this year.

And with that, Paul Merson has told Sportskeeda that he believes that Forest are likely to add to Everton’s misery this weekend.

“The result of this game depends on what Luton do against Brentford. Everton got absolutely destroyed by Chelsea the other day and they recently fell over the line against Burnley due to a goalkeeping error, so I think Forest will win this one,” he said, as he predicted a 2-0 win for the visitors.

“Everton are struggling badly and need to get more points on the board to secure their Premier League status. I can’t see that happening this week, though.”

A chance to strike a real psychological blow

Obviously, a win for either will be a big boost ahead of the final games of the season. Psychologically, it will also provide a big lift.

But both Everton and Forest face two of the bottom three before the campaign concludes. So there will be further opportunities to secure some massive points in the battle for survival.

There is a real question mark over what the future holds for both sides after their points deductions. And relegation would obviously be a big blow for either.

It is likely to be a cagey affair between two sides who have plenty of flaws right now.

Everton definitely need to step up their game considerably if they are going to surprise Merson and secure a big result.
