‘A skill we don’t see’: Jamie Carragher amazed by what Liverpool target did to Declan Rice last night

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher praised Bayern Munich after they knocked Arsenal out of the Champions League on Wednesday night.

It hasn’t been a great week for Arsenal, after watching Liverpool drop points in the Premier League title race on Sunday, rather than capitalise on that moment, they knocked themselves out by losing to Aston Villa hours later.

And now they are out of Europe, with players like Declan Rice struggling in both matches after his club-record transfer in the summer.

For large parts of the season, the all-action midfielder has been outstanding for his team. A player Liverpool fans would have loved at their club, for sure!

But playing in Europe’s elite competition for the first time in his career, he is finding out what it’s like coming up against the best of the best.

One of them includes a Liverpool transfer target who is catching the eye of those on Merseyside.

Jamal Musiala is one of the best youngsters in the world right now and Carragher thinks he has a skill ‘we don’t see often in the game now’, as he told CBS Sports on Paramount+ (17/04/24 at 11:10 pm).

The former centre-back lauded Musiala for his ability to dribble and go past players, as he did against Rice and Jorginho with ease.

Carragher thinks it’s a skill that is fading away in today’s game and you ‘very rarely’ see Arsenal’s midfield treated in that manner.

Jamal Musiala thrives in the Champions League

“Musiala, for me, this guy is sensational,” said Carragher. “I think he is going to be a superstar. Look at what he is doing at the Champions League level quarter-finals.

“His ability to run past people and it’s a skill we don’t see so often in the game now. You see people play one-touch and two-touch. And move the ball on quickly.

“But to see somebody able to dribble at the highest level. I always think it’s almost a bit of a throwback. He didn’t end up getting a goal or an assist at the end of all of this, but so much to admire in his game and he is a real thorn in the side of Arsenal. You see him go past Rice and Jorginho. That’s what you very rarely see. Players in central areas dribbling past the opposition.”

Jamal Musiala would be a dream transfer for Liverpool

Look, after what happened to Bayern in the Bundesliga this season, the last thing you expect is for a key player to leave.

But if there ever was a chance to sign the 21-year-old, then this is the type of player you break the bank for.

Over the years, Liverpool haven’t splashed the cash in a crazy manner like their rivals.

But they have still paid big fees for players – Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Darwin Nunez.

So, there is no reason why Musiala can’t remain a dream transfer target for those on Merseyside because he would be utterly amazing for the club and the Premier League itself.
