Tottenham now reportedly want to sign player who Julian Nagelsmann says is a ‘great talent’

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly eyeing a summer move for a player who Julian Nagelsmann has labelled a ‘great talent’.

Spurs have plenty of work to do this summer as they continue to build a side in Ange Postecoglou’s image.

The Aussie boss remains in with a shot of securing Champions League football in his debut season but Tottenham face a tough run of fixtures.

Indeed, Spurs host Arsenal next weekend before trips to Stamford Bridge and Anfield the following week.

With or without Champions League football, Postecoglou is adamant he wants to be competing towards the top end of the table next season.

And the latest player to emerge as a target for Spurs would be an exciting addition to the Aussie’s squad.

Tottenham want player Nagelsmann labelled a ‘great talent’

Ahead of Postecoglou’s arrival at Spurs last summer, Julian Nagelsmann was heavily linked with a switch to north London.

The German boss reportedly turned down the chance of an interview for the Tottenham job.

Of course, Nagelsmann has since gone on to take over the German national team and Postecoglou has impressed in his debut season at Tottenham.

As the former Celtic boss looks to strengthen his options in attack it’s been claimed Spurs are keen on a player who worked under Nagelsmann, Dani Olmo.

Postecoglou has reportedly identified Olmo as a summer target due to his suitability to his side’s style of play.

What Nagelsmann has said about Olmo

Olmo worked under Nagelsmann during their time at RB Leipzig together and it’s fair to say the former Bayern boss is a huge fan of the Spaniard.

Following Olmo’s first brace for the German club back in June 2020, Nagelsmann raved about the versatile midfielder.

“That’s his favourite position,” he told beIN SPORTS. “We put him there so that he’s more likely to score than in the past few weeks when he had more defensive duties, which he did well, but he didn’t get in front of the goal as often.

“Today he was good in the box several times and even had his third goal on his foot in the second half, when he had a free finish from 11, 12 meters.

“I was very satisfied with him. He adapts better and better. He’s a great talent and a top guy who wants to learn, who has the necessary modesty, but also the ambition and the self-confidence and also opens his mouth sometimes and says that he wants to play.

“He wants to be given the chance. I like that. He has the necessary cheekiness and humbleness to develop. He’s becoming a player for our future who will play a lot more good games.”

Olmo has enjoyed a decent season at Leipzig, netting eight times and providing five assists in 22 appearances.

The 25-year-old is an incredibly versatile No10 who is able to play across the frontline.

You can understand why Tottenham are interested as he’s the type of player who could thrive under Postecoglou.
