'Tottenham will be there': Fabrizio Romano says Ange Postecoglou 'loves' £40m midfielder and wants him at Spurs

Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed a fairly fruitful season for the most part, certainly compared to last year.

In 2022/23, a manager-less Spurs outfit limped to an eighth-placed finish in the Premier League.

This term, under Ange Postecoglou, Tottenham were early pace-setters at the top of the table and remain in top-four contention.

Even if Spurs don’t finish in the Champions League places, there’s still a lot to work with, and the club hierarchy will be eager to bring in more top additions.

One player Tottenham have heavily been linked with is Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher, whose future at the west London club remains uncertain.

And Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the state of play.

The Sun recently reported that Spurs are set to go back in for the England international, for a fee said to be around £40million.

Tottenham reportedly bid for Gallagher last summer on deadline day, while there was also a strong interest in January.

What has Fabrizio Romano said about Tottenham and Conor Gallagher?

Now, Romano has claimed that Gallagher is “super-appreciated” by Spurs, and that Postecoglou “loves” him and wants him at N17.

“Conor Gallagher remains on Tottenham’s shortlist,” the transfer insider wrote on GiveMeSport. “He’s a super-appreciated player at Spurs.

“He’s been on Ange Postecoglou’s list since day one and has always been a player he loves. So, I think Tottenham will be there if Chelsea decide to sell the player in the summer transfer window.

“But for sure, Gallagher remains a player that is appreciated by Tottenham, and they’re waiting for Chelsea’s final decision on that one.”

Although Gallagher to Tottenham seems to be a rumour that has split the Spurs fanbase, there’s no denying he is top-end Premier League quality and would be a good shout for the Lilywhites.

At just 24 years of age, he’s already captained Chelsea and is featuring often for England. He’s still nowhere near his prime and Postecoglou would no doubt take him to the next level.
