Report: West Ham could sign 27-year-old 2021 FA Cup winner for absolutely nothing this summer

West Ham United are apparently lining up a move to sign a midfielder for free in the summer transfer window.

The upcoming summer transfer window will be a vitally important one for West Ham. A big squad overhaul is needed, with some potentially painful exits in the pipeline.

Regardless of whether David Moyes stays or leaves, we need at least five or six new players this summer, with new additions needed in pretty much every department of the squad.

Central midfield is one area that definitely needs strengthening. Edson Alvarez has been terrific for us this season, but we’re in desperate need of more competition and cover for him.

The signing of Kalvin Phillips has proven to be disastrous and Moyes, or whoever is in charge at the London Stadium this summer, must prioritise a move for a proven central midfielder, with energy and dynamism in abundance.

It seems like we have a player with those two attributes firmly on our radar…

According to a report from Tutto Juve, the Hammers are eyeing up a move for Leicester City midfielder Wilfred Ndidi this summer.

The 53-capped Nigeria international has been at the King Power Stadium for over seven years now, but he could be set for a move to pastures new before the start of next season.

In 28 Championship appearances for the Foxes this season, Ndidi has bagged two goals and five assists – not bad for a defensive midfielder! During those outings, he has averaged 1.3 tackles, one interception and one clearance per game (Who Scored).

He is hard as nails and plays with a real kind of tenacity and aggression that we desperately need at West Ham.

Ndidi, 27, will be out of contract with Leicester in just a couple of month’s time, so West Ham will be able to sign him on a free transfer in the summer window.

However, the problem is that we face competition from the likes of Everton, Crystal Palace, Sevilla, Getafe and Fenerbahce for his signature.

So whether we’re able to win the race for him remains to be seen.
