Report: Leeds United now set to take heavy eight-figure loss on 23-year-old this summer

Leeds United could be in for another busy summer regardless of whether they get promoted or not.

The Whites currently sit third in the Championship and still have a great chance of returning to the Premier League at the first attempt, whether that is automatically, or through the play-offs.

Promotion would certainly have Leeds in for an exciting transfer window. There are plenty of players in the squad ready to make the step up, but, at the same time, additions would be needed.

On the other hand, remaining in the second tier for another year would likely require some big player sales. Leeds released their accounts last week and while they are compliant with PSR, the club still owe £190 million in unpaid transfer instalments.

Leeds simply would not be able to offset that in the Championship without money coming in, whether that be from the current playing squad, or those out on loan.

Leeds now set to take heavy £15m loss on 23-year-old loanee this summer

Of the vast array of first team players who left on loan after relegation, only Luis Sinisterra and Robin Koch have been able to secure permanent exits so far.

Daniel Farke has already hinted that none of them will be welcome back at Elland Road, but it would be fair to say some of Leeds’ loanees have not found it easy at their new club.

Remaining in the Championship could see some go out on loan again. However, that would not generate the cash in the bank needed for the aforementioned £190 million.

And one player the Yorkshire Evening Post report Leeds could make a significant loss on is Brenden Aaronson, who is coming to the end of his spell at Union Berlin.

Leeds spent £25 million to sign Aaronson from RB Salzburg almost two years ago, but has shown nothing for either the Whites or Union to suggest he is worth anywhere near that.

At this stage, it feels unlikely Union will sanction a permanent move for the 23-year-old, and if Leeds do manage to sell him, the YEP state it is only going to be for around £10 million. That equates to a loss of £15 million.

What has Aaronson said about his Leeds future?

Aaronson has discussed his long-term future at Leeds over the last few weeks and seemingly hinted that an Elland Road return is off the cards.

He says he has been keeping an eye on Leeds’ promotion push, though the biggest thing from his perspective will be clarifying his future.

As mentioned, it has not really gone to plan for him in Germany, but Aaronson insists he would love to stay at Union long-term.

He said: “I can see myself remaining here. The club is amazing. it’s not up to me at the end of the day but I have so much respect for Union, the way it has been built, the staff.”
