Eye couple married 68 years return to Elmsett church in which they tied the knot

An elderly couple have celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary with a trip back to the place where they tied the knot in 1956.

Taffy and June Skipping, who are 95 and 89 years old and live in Eye, were born in Elmsett, where they grew up as next door neighbours and best friends.

They went to dances, church and school together, and as they grew older their friendship blossomed into a budding romance.

The couple visited the church where they got married 68 years ago.

Taffy proposed, and the couple got married on a sunny spring day on March 31, 1956, at Elmsett Church.

Both now residents at Hartismere Place, in Castleton Way, Eye, June and Taffy went to visit the church on March 31 and reminisced about their lives growing up, and growing old together.

Speaking about the success of their marriage, Mrs Skipping said: "Respect each other and don’t take each other for granted” and their advice for young couples is to “stick it out even when the times get tough”.
