36-year-old manager makes announcement about his future after being linked with Newcastle

One of the managers linked with replacing Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager has now made a decision about his immediate future.

Despite there being multiple stories about the owners intending to keep Eddie Howe as manager at St James’ Park, there have still been plenty of rumours about possible replacements.

We have seen Richard Keys lobby for Jose Mourinho to become Newcastle United manager, while Geordie Boot Boys were told that Roberto Mancini would be interested should there be a vacancy.

But there certainly will not be a vacancy, with Newcastle’s form really improving as of late. Speculation over Howe‘s future came at a time when the Magpies were struggling, but things have taken a turn for the better in recent weeks.

The British owners see Howe as a ‘gem’, and he proved that last weekend as Newcastle beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-0 thanks to a tactical masterclass.

36-year-old linked with becoming Newcastle United manager in February

And even if the Newcastle owners did the unthinkable and decided to part ways with Howe, one man who has been linked with replacing him is now going to be unavailable.

It was reported by journalist Christian Falk back in February that the Magpies were interested in appointing Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann as manager.

At the time, it was reported that the 36-year-old had not made a decision about his future, with a return to club management a possibility.

He was also linked with the Liverpool job, which is set to be available this summer when Jurgen Klopp resigns.

But Nagelsmann will not be replacing Klopp this summer, nor will he be taking Howe’s job.

Julian Nagelsmann makes official decision about his future

That is because it has been announced that Nagelsmann has signed a new contract that will keep him as Germany manager until after the 2026 World Cup.

He had initially only been appointed on a short-term basis, brought in to manage Germany during Euro 2024.

But Nagelsmann will stay on in his role beyond this summer’s upcoming tournament, putting to bed any speculation that he could replace Eddie Howe as Newcastle United manager.

Another manager is linked with taking Eddie Howe’s job

It felt like a nonsense story at the time, especially given the amount of counter reports that claimed Howe was going nowhere.

But that will not stop replacements being linked, and there is now a new name in the mix to take Howe’s job on Tyneside.

It has been reported by Il Messaggero that former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri is weighing up an offer from Newcastle United. They state that there is also an approach from West Ham United, with Sarri keen to return to the Premier League.

But while the West Ham job might come up this summer with David Moyes fighting for his future, it seems absolutely laughable that Sarri would be considering the possibility of taking over at St James’ Park.

This is another one to file under the ‘absolute nonsense’ column.
