Report: Three Newcastle United stars are expected to return very soon, 27-year-old is running again

Newcastle United are hoping to welcome some key players back from injury before the 2023/24 season comes to an end.

The Magpies have six Premier League games left, and could potentially finish as high as fifth if results go our way. Right now, Eddie Howe’s side are sixth, aiming to qualify for the Europa League.

Newcastle took a giant step towards doing that on Saturday with a 4-0 win over Tottenham Hotspur, despite Howe continuing to boast a depleted side.

He still has a lot of key players out with injury, with the likes of Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles potentially out for the rest of 2024 with their respective ACL injuries.

But there is possibly better news on Nick Pope, Callum Wilson and Joelinton, who are also sidelined with injury right now.

When Nick Pope could return from injury

Newcastle United have been without Nick Pope since late November. He suffered a shoulder injury during a 1-0 win over Manchester United, which resulted in him undergoing surgery.

The England international has been a major miss, with his absence changing the way that Newcastle defend. Martin Dubravka has struggled to fill the void left by Pope, resulting in fans clamouring for the former Burnley man to return.

Fortunately, a comeback might not be too far away. Eddie Howe recently stated that Pope could be back towards the end of April, and the latest update from The Athletic suggests that remains the case.

According to The Athletic, Pope is still expected to be back by the end of April, despite the Magpies acting with caution as he edges closer towards a full recovery. The article from Chris Waugh suggests that Pope could be back in action at the beginning of May, with Newcastle’s first game that month coming against Burnley on May 4th.

When Callum Wilson could return from injury

There is also hope that Callum Wilson could be back from injury before the 2023/24 campaign comes to close.

The Athletic report that he is making good progress after undergoing pectoral surgery, having suffered a muscle injury in the final stages of Newcastle’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest in February.

They add that Wilson is hoping to be involved for the final few games of the season. That is a major boost, as Alexander Isak is currently our only fit striker. He is under a lot of pressure to stay fit, but that has also resulted in him scoring 21 goals in all competitions.

When Newcastle could have Joelinton back

The main bit of exciting news regarding Joelinton is that he has signed a new contract. He has committed his future to the club, which means he will not need to be moved on this summer.

It is fantastic to know that Joelinton is staying put, and it is even more encouraging to read that he is not far away from a comeback.

The Brazil international underwent thigh surgery after suffering an injury in the Tyne Wear derby, and there were fears that his season was over.

However, The Athletic state that he is now out on the grass and running, which fans saw in a recent YouTube video the club uploaded.

They add that although Joelinton is back running, he is yet to take part in full training and has just been working on his own for now.

But a comeback is close, with The Athletic suggesting that it will be at least a couple of weeks before he is fully fit.

Newcastle United have six games to go, and they will be looking to win as many of them as possible as they aim to qualify for Europe. Getting into the Europa League would be some achievement, and this update from The Athletic suggests that they could have as many as three key players back for one last push.
