Phil Foden names player Arsenal sold for £16m among his all-time Premier League favourites

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in England, boasting an impressive history laden with trophies and featuring many iconic players.

The Gunners have won the league 13 times in their history, including three times in the Premier League era, and have also lifted a record 14 FA Cups.

Some of the greatest footballers in history have plied their trade for Arsenal, and Gooners who followed the club in the 1990s and 2000s were especially spoilt for choice.

George Graham ended Arsenal’s First Division drought in 1989 and then delivered another title in 1991, helping set the foundations for what was to follow under Arsene Wenger.

The Frenchman revolutionised the Gunners – and indeed all of English football – and, in doing so, built a squad that would enjoy glory for a number of years.

When it comes to Wenger-era Arsenal legends, few players are held in quite as much regard as Thierry Henry, one of the best strikers in Premier League history.

And in terms of midfield enforcers, Patrick Vieira has also gone down as one of the all-time greats at Arsenal.

As a result, it’s no surprise that Manchester City star Phil Foden has named both Henry and Vieira in his all-time Premier League XI.

Mail Sport’s X account shared the video of Foden picking his XI, which consists of the following players in a 4-4-2 formation:

All in all, it’s a good XI, featuring four players who are still plying their trade professionally.

Three of those – Ederson, Walker and Van Dijk – are still in the Premier League, which just goes to show how much quality there continues to be in the English top flight.

Obviously this is the kind of thing that will trigger a lot of debate, with good cases being made for many other players including Alan Shearer, Ryan Giggs, Nemanja Vidic and so on and so forth.

Admittedly, Henry didn’t play very often on the right wing during his career. Nonetheless, it’s still good to see him make the XI. Besides, he did get some goals from the right for France in the 1998 World Cup.

Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira stats for Arsenal

Henry made 377 appearances for Arsenal, registering 228 goals and 96 assists in two stints for the Gunners.

He won two Premier League titles, three FA Cups and two Community Shields at the club.

Although the Gunners sold him to Barcelona in 2007 for £16million, he made a brief return to the club in 2012 on loan from New York Red Bulls.

Meanwhile, Vieira made 405 appearances for Arsenal, registering 32 goals and 46 assists for the Gunners.

He won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and three Community Shields while on the books at the north London club.

Vieira left Arsenal in 2005, joining Juventus for a reported £13.7million fee.
