How Sunderland lined up when they thrashed Millwall 6-0 on the road to 1995-96 First Division title

Sunderland are set to host Millwall in their penultimate home fixture of the campaign this afternoon.

Sunderland have nothing but pride to play for at this stage, with their poor form in the second half of the season leaving them now fighting for a top-half finish.

Millwall are also extremely unlikely to be relegated now after back-to-back wins, so it is a hard one to predict at the Stadium of Light.

Recent results between the two sides have been very dull, with four of the last five ending in draws, while Sunderland also picked up a 3-0 win in December 2022.

Sunderland’s meetings with Millwall were rarely very memorable, though many fans will have fond memories of their 6-0 demolition of The Lions in December 1995.

The Black Cats thrashed Millwall under Peter Reid and went onto win the First Division title, winning eleven of their final 17 games in the second tier.

Here is Sunderland’s starting line-up from that massive victory at Roker Park…
