'Whatever happens': Pep Guardiola shares his honest verdict on Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp

It’s safe to say the Premier League won’t be the same without Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola doing battle over the next few seasons.

The Liverpool boss is riding off into the sunset, leaving Guardiola and City to look for a new challenger.

Over the last seven seasons or so, Klopp and Guardiola have gone toe to toe, with the City boss coming out on top in the main, it has to be said.

Klopp will leave a legacy at Liverpool but the reality is that unless something drastic happens this season, he will leave Anfield with just a single Premier League trophy.

But that doesn’t mean that Liverpool’s efforts have been futile. That is, according to Guardiola himself anyway.

The best rivalries involve managers as well

Some of the best rivalries in Premier League history have involved the managers going back and forth and adding to the drama.

Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger went at it for years, while Jose Mourinho upset the apple-cart when he first came to England.

However, there’s always been a respect there.

And speaking about the rivalry with Liverpool in quotes shared by Fabrizio Romano, Guardiola had some nice words for his counterpart.

Pep Guardiola praises Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool

Speaking about the rivalry with Klopp and Liverpool over the years, City boss Guardiola admitted he has some admiration for the Anfield club.

“I admire Liverpool. Whatever happens this season, I admire Liverpool.

“When I said Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool always has been, it’s that, it’s the team that faced us, the real, real contender that faced us face to face, goes against you, six/seven years,” Guardiola said.

Up until the last few weeks, it had looked like Klopp might end up getting the better of Guardiola in the league at least.

However, it is City who once again have a hand on the title after last weekend’s nightmare results for both Arsenal and Liverpool.

But, as Guardiola says here, the respect is there between these two behemoths of English football and once Klopp has gone, things won’t quite feel the same.
