£4m player could make his Premier League debut for Crystal Palace on Sunday, spotted in training - opinion

As injuries pile up for Crystal Palace, this weekend could bring a Premier League debut for one player at the club.

Oliver Glasner has been so unlucky with injuries since he took over and these struggles have only increased in recent weeks.

After beating Liverpool last week, the Crystal Palace defence was lauded for its solidity in denying the Reds a single goal, but once again Glasner will now have to reshape the backline.

This is due to Jefferson Lerma now being out injured and will be out until May 6th against Manchester United.

He joins Chris Richards who remains out, Joel Ward who is a doubt and also Marc Guehi who’s been injured for a while now – which in turn leaves his options even thinner than he’d have thought possible.

But this could actually end up being a huge opportunity for one player in the squad who has yet to make a Premier League appearance for the Eagles, despite costing £4m last summer.

Rob Holding could be handed Premier League debut for Palace on Sunday

This Sunday, the three central defenders for Glasner’s side will be yet another change from the previous weekend, and with Joachim Andersen the only shoo-in, one man will be awaiting his opportunity.

Rob Holding was signed from Arsenal last summer, but since then he has only appeared in the EFL Cup, against United.

But now he’s back from injury and after being in training all week, could be slotted into the defence for his debut.

His return has come at the optimal time for Palace and alongside potentially Andersen and Nathaniel Clyne, it could be a trio solid enough to combat the Hammers’ attacking threats.

The 28-year-old will be hoping to take his chance too, considering it seems like the club are keen on strengthening in defence.

Holding will need to impress or could be replaced

Despite only arriving at the club last summer, already his position will be under scrutiny and therefore, this could be his one chance to show Glasner he deserves a chance.

The club already have a clear ambition to strengthen in central defence as there have been links to several players already.

Some of them are players who’d be very exciting, which would leave Holding as an afterthought.

Valencia’s Cristhian Mosquera is one who’s been linked pretty substantially and would be a great fit for Glasner’s side.

Another is Union Berlin’s Danilho Doekhi, who has even suggested he’d be open to a move this summer in a recent interview

So this and the following five games could be huge for Holding and could make or break his Palace career.
