Jermaine Jenas spotted Chelsea player telling off £14m teammate during Manchester City FA Cup clash

Jermaine Jenas spotted one Chelsea player giving his teammate a telling off during the FA Cup clash against Manchester City at Wembley.

The Blues endured a nervy start against the Citizens in today’s semi-final, with Marc Cucurella almost slotting Julian Alvarez in on goal early on, but for a fine intervention from Thiago Silva.

There was then another shaky moment from Chelsea not long after that in the 4th minute, with Jermaine Jenas spotting an interesting exchange afterwards…

Well, it was Silva who was seen giving one Chelsea teammate a death stare – following a very loose pass in the 4th minute.

Just after the Brazilian had mopped up Cucurella’s mess, he was given a hospital pass from Djordje Petrovic while under pressure, and again did well to ensure Manchester City did not take advantage.

After the miscalculated pass, Silva could be seen telling the Serbia international off and glaring at him, with Jenas commenting on BBC Sport: “He didn’t want that (ball) did he, Silva. Having a word with his goalkeeper there.”

In fairness, Chelsea then grew into the game, threatening Manchester City with several dangerous runs in behind, which should have been punished if not for some wasteful finishing – Nicolas Jackson in particular missed several golden opportunities when through on Stefan Ortega’s goal.

While Petrovic may have upset Silva in the 4th minute against Manchester City today, he has been a solid signing overall since arriving in a £14m deal from New England Revolution back in August 2023.

The Chelsea No.28 impressively stood his ground long enough to deny Phil Foden the chance to waltz around him and tap the ball into an empty net during that opening 45 minutes, while commanding his goalmouth quite well in general.

Before today’s FA Cup semi-final, Petrovic had made 23 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea ever since ousting Robert Sanchez from in between the sticks.

You can see his statistics in total below.

  • Appearances: 23
  • Clean sheets: 5
  • Goals conceded: 32
  • Yellow cards: 3
  • Red cards: 0

At the age of just 24, Petrovic could well be Chelsea’s No.1 for the next decade if he keeps impressing.
