Man Utd to compete with Bayern Munich for 'great talent' who'd cost £52m this summer, there's just one problem - opinion

Manchester United are among the clubs keen on making a move to sign one superb Bundesliga talent this summer.

For Erik ten Hag, it’s no secret that he’s keen to see improvements made to his squad, as it’s spent this entire season being decimated by inferior teams.

Manchester United could be set for the worst season in recent memory as they currently sit seventh.

This means we expect United to be busy on both the incoming and outgoing front this summer, as there could be as many as 10 exits if reports are to be believed.

This would leave the squad short and substantial recruitment needing to be done, not an easy start to life for Jason Wilcox.

But now it’s been reported that United are keen on one player who has great talent.

Manchester United keen on Dani Olmo

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, United are one of the seven teams who are interested in RB Leipzig’s Dani Olmo.

The report says that out of the interested teams, “especially Manchester United and Bayern”, which has us thinking these are the two most likely options.

United have shown “serious interest” according to the report.

With a market value of £34m, Olmo is severely underrated and should be worth substantially more given his impressive ability.

Despite being worth £34m, he’s being linked with a move from other outlets for £52m which is his release clause, but even this is probably a fair amount considering that’s almost what was spent on Fred.

He’s been labelled as a “great talent” by Julian Nagelsmann, which we’re inclined to trust given Nagelsmann is an excellent manager.

However, there is only one thing which makes this deal one we’re not too confident over, and that’s the question of where he actually fits in.

There’s just one problem, where would Dani Olmo even play?

For whoever the United manager is come August, having Olmo in the team would be a phenomenal positive.

However, this would also create a dilemma for the boss, with Olmo not having a clear area he’d suit slotting into.

He’s primarily an attacking midfielder throughout his career, but this season, he’s found a home on the right for Leipzig.

12 right-wing displays have gained him two goals and four assists, while his best success actually comes off the left with five goals and an assist in six games.

Olmo therefore may actually be an excellent option as he could play in any position across what line and is capable of starting in each of them as well.
