'I have been so impressed': Jamie Redknapp amazed by £30m Arsenal player's passing after Wolves win

Jamie Redknapp has named the Arsenal player he has been so impressed with, and claimed that the 25-year-old has proved to be a brilliant signing.

Arsenal have returned to the top of the Premier League table. Mikel Arteta’s side had a real point to prove after their defeat to Aston Villa in between the two legs of their Champions League quarter-final loss to Bayern Munich.

Wolves have been hampered by injuries. But Gary O’Neil’s side have been so impressive throughout the campaign. So it definitely threatened to be another tough task at Molineux.

However, Arsenal got the job done. Leandro Trossard put the Gunners in front right towards the end of the first-half with a remarkable finish into the top corner.

And Martin Odegaard made the points safe late on. The £30 million Norwegian managed to sneak the ball into the near post past Jose Sa.

It was a moment of composure Arsenal needed to give them that breathing space. And it may not have surprised Gunners fans that it was the captain who stepped up in that moment.

Odegaard has developed into such a superb talisman over the last couple of years. And speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 20/4; 21:47), Jamie Redknapp was full of praise for the midfielder’s contribution.

“The captain, the leader – I have been so impressed with him,” he said.

“I just think he has got such a great football brain. Whenever he is on it, the game stands still. He never panics, he always make the right pass, he has been a brilliant signing.”

Martin Odegaard leading by example when Gunners need him most

Odegaard is certainly doing all he can to drag Arsenal across the line. He has now scored four goals in his last nine Premier League appearances for Arteta’s men.

Ian Wright suggested that Odegaard was the only players to impress against Aston Villa last week. And he is often the one setting the standard, particularly when Arsenal need a piece of brilliance.

He made three key passes against Wolves, according to Whoscored. Only Declan Rice managed more.

Clearly, Odegaard is not ready to give up on the idea of him being the next captain to lift the Premier League trophy.
