'Poor day at the office': Alan Shearer was so disappointed with £32m Chelsea player in FA Cup semi-final

Alan Shearer was not impressed with one Chelsea player in his side’s FA Cup semi-final defeat at Wembley yesterday.

Despite having the better chances on the day, Chelsea went on to lose 1-0 against Manchester City at Wembley.

It has ended their hopes of winning any silverware this season and means the club now need to finish sixth in the Premier League to qualify for the Europa League.

Chelsea are only three points behind Newcastle United, who currently sit in sixth place. However, with their next game coming up against Arsenal, some supporters will be feeling a bit worried.

On a more positive note, Mauricio Pochettino has at least confirmed that Cole Palmer should be fit for that match.

Alan Shearer slams Chelsea player after FA Cup semi-final defeat

A lot of the good opportunities that Chelsea had yesterday fell to Nicolas Jackson, who just could not convert.

Shearer has since described his outing as a “poor day at the office”.

Analysing Chelsea’s semi-final loss against City for the BBC, the Newcastle United legend said: “A poor day at the office for Nicolas Jackson. Mauricio Pochettino feels Chelsea should be about fourth on expected goals and this is exactly what he’s on about.

“Jackson never looked comfortable. They are absolute sitters, they really are. Three great chances for him.”

Jackson has been guilty of missing good chances all season, with yesterday the latest example.

Yet his general centre-forward play was still pretty good and his overall goal record is not terrible for a 22-year-old who has not been in England for too long.

In 37 appearances, Jackson has scored 13 goals. Chelsea paid Villarreal £32m for his signature last summer; it is certainly one of the better deals under the Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital ownership.

Still, it would not be a surprise if the club went out and made another forward one of their most expensive signings of all time this summer. Jackson’s output is not going to get them back into the Champions League.
