Report: Sheffield Utd want to sign 'excellent' Premier League forward as potential McBurnie replacement

Sheffield United are looking for new firepower next season and could be set to make a move for someone very well known to a current squad member.

The Blades are all but relegated from the Premier League after a disastrous 4-1 defeat against Burnley yesterday.

Chris Wilder admitted after the game that he is not happy with certain things and opting for realism, admitted that some eyes had to be on next season now.

The Blades boss is keen to overhaul the squad. A number of key players are out of contract, while others could be sold and a number of others loan spells will not be renewed.

That leaves Wilder will plenty of room to make improvements.

And according to a report The Sun, the Blades are eyeing Luton Town striker, John McAtee.

Sheffield United want to sign John McAtee

According to the report, the Blades are eyeing a number of loan signings as well as permanents and Barnsley loanee McAtee is a player on their list.

McAtee is currently on loan from Luton at Oakwell and has done ok under Neil Collins, hitting double figures to help the Reds into the playoff positions.

The former Blades defender has lauded McAtee as being ‘excellent‘ since moving to South Yorkshire.

A playoff spot is not guaranteed just yet though, with Barnsley needing something on the final day to secure their place.

McAtee is set to go back to Luton in the summer but with the Hatters potentially staying in the Premier League, there’ll be little room for him to succeed.

United, of course, are low on good quality options up top.

Oli McBurnie could leave, while Ben Brereton-Diaz is only on loan. Youngster Will Osula is still a raw talent, while Daniel Jebbison has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.

Rhian Brewster, meanwhile, is injured again and is unlikely to play until next season.

McAtee, then, could well be an interesting signing if there is a low budget.
