21-year-old struggles, two players get 7/10: Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Everton

Nottingham Forest were beaten by Everton at Goodison Park as the team’s relegation worries worsened and we’ve looked at some player ratings.

The Reds fell behind to a long-range effort from Idrissa Gueye that left Matz Sels between the posts stranded.

In the second half, it was pretty much all Forest but another long-range effort this time from Dwight McNeil put the game out of sight.

It wasn’t a good afternoon for Nuno Espirito Santo and he must now be seriously concerned about his team’s chances this season.

Forest showed little to zero fight throughout the contest and very rarely threatened the Everton goal – particularly in the second half.

It leaves Espirito Santo’s team perilously close to the relegation zone still and things are not looking good for the Reds.

Following today’s defeat on Merseyside, we’ve looked at some player ratings and scored the players out of 10 for their efforts.

Nottingham Forest player ratings vs Everton

Matz Sels – 5

The goalkeeper might have done a little better with the first goal but could do little to prevent Dwight McNeil’s brilliant long-range effort.

Neco Williams – 5

Really wasteful with his end product after Forest have on some occasions played it well to get up the pitch.

Moussa Niakhate – 7

A solid return for the Senegal international and he looked very assured up against Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is constantly a nuisance for defenders.

Murillo – 6

The Brazilian complements Niakhate nicely and this was another reasonably solid performance without being spectacular.

Ola Aina – 7

Coped very well with Jack Harrison and Aina looks very much established as the number one left-back option for Forest.

Nicolas Dominguez -5

It perhaps wasn’t the fairytale call that fans thought it would be in starting Dominguez over Ryan Yates. He did okay but was far from at his best.

Danilo – 5

A pretty drab performance from Danilio during this contest and he will want to park this one and move on from it.

Callum Hudson-Odoi – 6

Tried his best to get Forest going and probably should have won Forest two penalties but VAR didn’t agree.

Morgan Gibbs-White – 6

Not at his creative best but as ever he did put in a shift to try and get Forest firing on all cylinders.

Giovanni Reyna – 4

The American didn’t look at ease on the right and was unsurprisingly hooked just after the half-time interval.

Chris Wood – 6

Should have pulled Forest level but although he connected properly with a cross, he found an inspired Jordan Pickford between the posts.

Substitutions

Anthony Elanga – 6

Tried hard to get Forest playing but ultimately, it was a frustrating afternoon for the winger. It’s good to see him fit, however.

Divock Origi, Ryan Yates, Rodrigo Ribeiro – N/A
