Report: Real Madrid are leading the race to sign £50m Manchester City player in the summer

It has been reported that Real Madrid are the frontrunners in the race to sign a certain Manchester City player in the summer.

It’s fair to say that City have every reason to be concerned about such a development.

Real Madrid are widely recognised as the biggest club in the world and more often than not, if they target a player, they usually end up signing them.

So far, Los Blancos have been unable to attract any of the City players to the Santiago Bernabeu.

For years, the likes of Sergio Aguero and David Silva were linked with moves to the Spanish capital.

But City managed to keep a hold of their legendary pair until the end of their peak years.

Real Madrid leading race to sign £50 million Manchester City player

Even since then, Manchester City have had plenty of top players who could perhaps have started for Real Madrid.

However, none of them have made the move to La Liga’s giants.

Erling Haaland is one who is endlessly linked with a move to Real Madrid, as he would be the archetypal ‘Galactico’ signing made by them.

In February, it was reported that those close to the Norwegian have “laughed off” such speculation.

Erling Haaland also expressed his delight at being at the Etihad Stadium, pouring water on the fuel surrounding him potentially signing for Carlo Ancelotti’s side sooner rather than later.

But now, the Daily Star states that Real Madrid are one of the many clubs interested in signing Bernardo Silva, alongside Barcelona, Arsenal, Bayern Munich and PSG all believed to be “monitoring the situation closely.”

However, it has been revealed that Real Madrid are ahead of the rest of the suitors who aim to sign Bernardo Silva.

Furthermore, it has been claimed that Los Merengues are convinced about signing City’s number 20 due to how well he has performed against them over the years.

The Portuguese midfielder has a £50 million release clause in his contract, that becomes valid this summer, as reiterated by Fabrizio Romano on his YouTube channel less than two weeks ago.

Bernardo Silva is also viewed as a perfect transfer target by Real Madrid due to his experience, considering their young midfield will need a senior figure as Luka Modric’s career looks set to draw to a close sooner rather than later.

Lastly, it has also been mentioned that the 28-year-old is happy at City but he has ruled out a potential move to any other Premier League club.

As a result, Arsenal might already have to bow out of the race for his signature.

Tough to replace Bernardo Silva for Manchester City

If Bernardo Silva does join Real Madrid or any other club for that matter, Manchester City have every right to be gutted.

Of course, losing a player who has helped the club as much as he has over the years would be devastating.

But to replace the former AS Monaco attacker will be a challenge, with how well-rounded he is as a technician, a workhorse and a utility man; qualities not many attacking players have in abundance like he does.

With Bernardo Silva stepping up with a winner for Manchester City against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-final as well, especially after missing a penalty against Real Madrid mid-week, his mental fortitude was there for all to see.

Signing a replacement for Bernardo who has all his footballing traits and elite mindset will be a task and half for City’s recruits, provided he does bid farewell to the club in the summer.
