Clement confirms Rangers awaiting assessment on ominous post-Hearts injury blow

Philippe Clement has provided an Abdallah Sima injury update after hooking the Rangers forward off in the first-half against Hearts.

The Gers are through to the Scottish Cup Final following a 2-0 victory over Hearts, Cyriel Dessers stealing the headlines with a deadly double.

But the first-half of the Hampden clash was marred by an injury to Abdallah Sima, who pulled up after appearing to pull a muscle.

Philippe Clement spent some time talking to Abdallah Sima as he was replaced by Ross McCausland and now the Rangers manager has been talking to BBC Sportsound about the injury.

Clement gives Sima injury update

As soon as Abdallah Sima was spotted grabbing the back of his leg you couldn’t help but fear the worst.

For Rangers, with a tense Scottish Premiership run-in ahead and a Scottish Cup Final with Celtic on the horizon, losing the Brighton loanee would be a massive blow the club’s chances.

But on a personal level, with Abdallah Sima only just returning from a long-term injury lay-off sustained at AFCON, any injury would represent a major setback for the forward’s development.

It would also bring into doubt a much-discussed permanent move to Rangers come the end of the season.

Speaking about the situation, Philippe Clement was in no position to give an immediate assessment and claims that Rangers are crossing their fingers over the forward.

“Yeah of course if you take a player off that early it’s because of an injury,” said Clement (BBC Sportsound live 21/04/24).

“We will see this week how serious it is and make a good assessment around that. I hope it’s nothing too bad but we will see.”

Rangers showed “real face” against Hearts

The Rangers manager was also asked how his team played in the 2-0 win over Hearts.

Claiming that his team showed their “real face” in the victory, the Ibrox gaffer couldn’t resist a dig at the Dundee pitch.

“We showed our quality on the ball,” said Clement. “I think this made the difference today.

“The players played a really good technical and tactical game to find the right spaces, to make the right attacks, to find also the right moments to attack.

“We were against Dundee too much in a rush, also because of the field it was difficult to play a good passing football so that was much better today so then you see the real face of this team.”

Rangers will now have a full week off before facing St Mirren in Paisley next Sunday (28/04) at 12:30pm.
