BBC pundit says 25-year-old Liverpool player did something ‘magnificent’ vs Fulham today

Mark Schwarzer was really impressed by something ‘magnificent’ Liverpool’s 25-year-old did against Fulham today.

There wasn’t much to smile about for Liverpool in the first-half against Fulham today. Jurgen Klopp’s men may have dominated possession, but they had little to show for it.

Liverpool struggled to create chances from open play. In fact, the Reds’ first shot on target from open play came in the 34th minute. And that was their only shot on target from open play in the first-half.

It was a bleak showing from Liverpool. Yet despite that, there was a moment of brilliance mixed in there as well from Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Mark Schwarzer on Trent Alexander-Arnold’s magnificent moment vs Fulham

The highlight of the first-half for Liverpool came from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Liverpool had won their second free-kick in a dangerous territory.

The first one was hit straight at the wall by Harvey Elliott. But this time it was Alexander-Arnold who stepped up.

And he didn’t disappoint. In typical Alexander-Arnold esque fashion, he thundered the ball into the back of the net.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, Mark Schwarzer was very impressed by Alexander-Arnold’s finish and sung his praises.

“It’s a magnificent goal,” Schwarzer said.

“He took his time, picked his spot, set it. Bernd Leno had absolutely no chance in making that save, brilliant free-kick. It’s a really good free-kick, the pace, the direction, the curl. It’s always going away from Leno, it’s actually hit the side netting. It’s a brilliant free-kick.”

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s impressive numbers this season

That was Trent Alexander-Arnold’s 12th goal contribution for Liverpool this season, which is a great return from the right-back considering how many games he has missed.

His underlying numbers have been really impressive as well and almost Kevin de Bruyne like.

According to Wyscout, he ranks in number one spot for the following metrics in the Premier League this season:

  • Passes to the final third (13.78 per 90)
  • Passes to the penalty area (6.03 per 90)
  • Progressive passes (14.87 per 90)
  • Through passes (3.16 per 90)
