'I feel': Gary Neville shares whether he thinks Liverpool can win title after beating Fulham today

Gary Neville has responded when asked whether Liverpool can now win the Premier League title this season after they got back to winning ways on Sunday.

Many, understandably, felt that Manchester City had one hand on the trophy again after last weekend, with Pep Guardiola’s men winning as Arsenal and Liverpool suffered surprise defeats.

City have been in FA Cup semi-final action this weekend. And that presented both Arsenal and Liverpool with the chance to move back above the champions.

Arsenal did their bit on Saturday, beating Wolves 2-0 at Molineux. That piled the pressure on Liverpool ahead of the trip to Craven Cottage to face Fulham today.

They did not always make it easy for themselves. But Liverpool got the three points, with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Ryan Gravenberch and Diogo Jota all scoring for the Reds.

Gary Neville suggests whether Liverpool can still win Premier League title

Interestingly, Arsenal and Liverpool both play before Manchester City play again. So there is an opportunity for both teams to move four points clear of Guardiola’s men. And that will lay down the challenge.

Speaking on Sky Sports (broadcast on 21/4; 18:53), Gary Neville suggested that he would not rule Liverpool out of the title race just yet.

“Well, they’ve got a chance,” he said. “I think you mentioned it earlier in the show this afternoon, being four points ahead before City play is huge. Applying pressure.

“Jurgen Klopp’s job is trying to win the title this season, but also I think for these players, a lot of them at Liverpool are new. So, they are answering the question around can Liverpool be in a title race. Can they live with Manchester City because there’s next season to think about as well when a new manager comes in, but they have got a chance.

“They are not the favourites by any stretch of the imagination, we think City will do it. Last week when we left the Emirates and Liverpool had lost and Arsenal had left, we felt a little deflated that the three-horse race wasn’t to be. But I feel a little more confident about it because Arsenal and Liverpool have done their jobs this weekend.”

Fixture list definitely opens the door for the Reds

Certainly, the timing of the fixtures sets up a much more interesting title race. You would imagine that there is a good chance that City will be four points off the summit by the time they kick off against Brighton on Thursday.

A four-point gap could see a psychological blow struck. And that could be particularly important for Arsenal given that their goal difference is so strong right now.

But Liverpool may be content to go under the radar a little more. This has been an incredibly emotional season for the Reds.

They remain in touch with the games counting down. And they have the quality to capitalise if both Manchester City and Arsenal do slip up from here.
