'Sneaky good': Pundit says £30m Arsenal player just hasn't got anywhere near enough credit this season

Robbie Earle believes that one Arsenal player has not got anywhere near enough credit for how sneakily good he has been throughout the season.

The Gunners got their Premier League title charge somewhat back on track on Saturday. It seemed imperative that Mikel Arteta’s side bounced back from a difficult three games when they travelled to Molineux.

Thankfully, Arsenal were able to get the job done against Wolves. Goals from Leandro Trossard and Martin Odegaard sent the Gunners back to the top of the table. And the result opens the door for Arsenal to potentially go four points clear before Manchester City play again.

What has perhaps not been reflected upon enough is the fact that Arsenal have now kept six clean sheets in a row on their travels in the Premier League.

Arsenal player has gone under the radar with how good he has been

Obviously, Gabriel Magalhaes and William Saliba have been outstanding. But perhaps the displays of one of their teammates is going under the radar.

Speaking on The 2 Robbies, Robbie Earle claimed that David Raya has been so much better than many will give him credit for.

“David Raya is somebody who’s not appreciated in the Arsenal team. Let me tell you, he’s not appreciated. They’re defending so well because they’ve got the best centre-back pairing, they’ve got Declan Rice. They’ve got 13 clean sheets from the season, they’ve got six successive away clean sheets. Let me tell you what happens if Gomes’ goal goes in at 1-0 about 10 to 15 minutes before Arsenal score, it could’ve been a very different day for Arsenal. It could’ve been another disappointment,” he said.

“David Raya has had his moments. He’s maybe not had as many big moments as you would expect. But his consistency, his ability to play out from the back under pressure. He comes up with a couple of big saves when he needs to. I think he’s been quite under appreciated.

“We all loved Ramsdale. We all didn’t know what Mikel Arteta had done. He leads the golden glove by four clean sheets to the next keeper.

“Sneaky good, solid goalkeeping appointment for Arsenal.”

What everyone is now forgetting about David Raya after controversial summer move

Mikel Arteta took a real gamble deciding to sign Raya in the summer. Aaron Ramsdale appeared to have the number one position nailed down at the Emirates.

For much of the first-half of the season, it appeared to be a completely unnecessary gamble. Raya definitely took some time to get going after his move, which could become permanent for £30 million.

It is impossible to say whether Arsenal appear to be better off with the Spaniard in goal. But it is quite frankly frightening to think that the January transfer window was open the last time Arsenal conceded a goal in an away game in the Premier League.

Raya deserves enormous credit for silencing the doubters during his time at the Emirates.
