'That could ruin him': Pundit says he's really worried about Manchester United player if ten Hag now drops him

Anton Ferdinand believes that Erik ten Hag could potentially ruin one Manchester United player if he decides to drop him off the back of his most recent performance.

It has obviously been a tough campaign at Old Trafford, with United struggling to build on the promise that they had shown in Erik ten Hag‘s first year with the club.

The young players such as Kobbie Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho have provided reason for optimism.

And it was another starlet who really caught the eye in the dramatic draw with Liverpool earlier this month.

Anton Ferdinand fears Erik ten Hag could ruin Manchester United player with selection decision

Willy Kambwala made his second league start for United in the game. And of course, he was up against one of the most impressive attacking units in the division.

Micah Richards was full of praise for Kambwala however, as United came agonisingly close to securing a massive win.

Unfortunately for the Frenchman, things were much tougher in their next game. Manchester United drew 2-2 with Bournemouth, with Kambwala potentially at fault for both goals Andre Onana conceded.

It was perhaps a reminder that the 19-year-old very much remains a work in progress. But speaking on The Take On, Anton Ferdinand suggested that the teenager deserves the opportunity to make things right.

“Do you know what I hope, I hope that ten Hag stays with Willy Kambwala. I know he had a hard time. But I hope he does. The way he played against Liverpool, his performance against Liverpool warrants [keeping his place]. Even though he didn’t have his best game against Solanke, he deserves time in that team,” he said.

“He’s young, he’s learning on the job. There is a player in there, there is a defender in there. I just hope that he doesn’t just take him out because that could ruin him.”

Remaining Premier League games may present ideal opportunity

Of course, the next game for United is the FA Cup semi-final against Coventry. Ten Hag’s side should be able to book their spot in the final. But the Sky Blues are fighting for promotion out of the Championship this season, so they are not to be taken lightly.

It would therefore, be a big call to stick with Kambwala at Wembley.

But with United’s Champions League hopes arguably all but gone, it would make some sense to give him plenty of minutes in what remains of the Premier League campaign.
