'Another twist': Micah Richards thinks there could be a surprise waiting in the Premier League title race

Micah Richards has admitted that he still thinks there could be a surprise in the Premier League title race between Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City.

It was all doom and gloom for both Mikel Arteta, Jurgen Klopp and their respective sets of fans the weekend before last.

Defeats against Aston Villa and Crystal Palace respectively seemed to have handed Man City the advantage at the worst possible time from their point of view.

However, with Pep Guardiola’s side in FA Cup action this weekend, both Arsenal and Liverpool did their job well.

It remains to be seen if Man City will feel any effects from this so-called ‘scoreboard pressure’, but their rivals have got their noses ahead again.

Kevin De Bruyne and co will next play on Thursday away to Brighton & Hove Albion, by which time Arsenal will have played again, hoping to create a four point lead.

That being said, when speaking on ‘The Rest Is Football’ podcast after yesterday’s results, Micah Richards was convinced there could still be a surprise in the title race.

Micah Richards convinced Man City will still drop points in Premier League title race

Richards explained how Arsenal are now much mature whilst complimenting Liverpool as well, believing the duo can make the most Man City dropping points.

He said: “I really believe there is going to be another twist before the end of the season. I don’t think all teams win all their games.

“ I think points are dropped and it’s what makes it exciting. In terms of Man City what they have done, going out on penalties and then getting through in the FA Cup, they have been brilliant.

“Arsenal have been more mature, even though it was a very disappointing defeat to Aston Villa. And then Liverpool, it was so unlike them to lose at home to Atalanta, then to bounce back.

“It shows the mentality and hopefully it will be a great race.”

Of course, it’s a brave person who predicts that Guardiola’s team will forfeit any kind of lead at this stage of the season.

Richards is right in saying that Arsenal and Liverpool have shown their steel this weekend in the title race, if it was ever in doubt.

But Manchester City do look as if they can win all of their remaining fixtures, with perhaps Tottenham Hotspur away on 14th May looking the trickiest.

All that being said, Trent Alexander-Arnold did make a comment about Arsenal after Liverpool’s win yesterday.
