The Scottish Cup gave the Celtic fans and Brendan Rodgers a bit of a break from league duty this weekend.
And what should have been a distraction from the intensity of the title race turned into another nail-biting afternoon for the Celtic fans.
The penalty shoot-out win summed up a day of drama and now Celtic have the opportunity to complete a league and cup double.
And after Rangers booked their place for the showpiece final, Ibrox striker, Cyriel Dessers made a strange post-match claim that the Celtic fans will find really bizarre.
Dessers says Rangers are a better team than Celtic
The Rangers striker scored a double at Hampden yesterday in the 2-0 win over Hearts to send the Ibrox club into the final when he made this strange post-match comment.
Dessers said [Scottish Football Podcast], “If you look at the last few months we’ve shown what we’re capable of and I think it’s just trying to get the vibe back.
“If we can find that rhythm back then I think we’re the best team in the league and hopefully, we can show that in the next games.
“It’s not only us 11 or 15 players on the pitch, it will be with everybody together. Players, staff, fans, everybody in and around the club, and I think altogether we can do this.”
Ok, so we all know that the Rangers players have a history of shooting their mouths off during a season and it’s come back to bite them.
And whilst nothing in the league has been decided yet, this makes Dessers’ comments even stranger.
Not one person in the Celtic camp has dared to make this suggestion. In fact, Brendan Rodgers and his players have been at pains to play down their title hopes because they know that even at this stage, nothing has been decided.
And I am going to say it. Pin it up Brendan because this is all the motivation this Celtic team need to go out and seal the title in the remaining five games of the season.
