'Watch him': Sky pundit noticed what Ashley Young did after big Nottingham Forest penalty appeal yesterday

Stephen Warnock has delivered his verdict on the first penalty decision that Nottingham Forest were denied against Everton yesterday.

The Reds are making headlines for all the wrong reasons once again and it’s been a turbulent week.

Yesterday, however, Forest were dead right to have some serious angst towards the powers that be – with the PGMOL in the firing line.

Forest were incensed by the decision to let Luton fan Stuart Attwell work VAR for the game and he failed to award the Reds three penalties.

After the game, the football club released a damning post on X about the decision and Forest were criticised by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards.

Now, Warnock has delivered his verdict on some of the incidents during yesterday’s game – and he’s in no doubt after the first flashpoint.

Stephen Warnock delivers verdict on Nottingham Forest incident

The first penalty appeal that fell on deaf ears came with the scores locked at 0-0 when Giovanni Reyna was seemingly kicked from behind by Ashley Young.

Incidentally, it was Young who was fortunate not to give away three penalties – and perhaps he can count himself extremely lucky.

After Dermot Gallagher claimed he felt that there wasn’t enough contact for the incident to be a foul, Warnock took him to task.

He claims that something which Young did just after the incident probably suggests that Forest were unlucky not to get the decision.

Warnock said live onRef Watch this morning: “I think it’s a penalty, it’s one of those where you get caught on the wrong side.

“It’s the player’s reaction, as soon as he kicks him, watch him, he knows he’s kicked him, he throws his hands up, I think it’s a penalty.”

Forest have every right to feel aggrieved once again

In our view, the journey to the Premier League was far better than the destination and that is largely down to VAR.

Football is about two teams battling it out with three points at stake but right now, after every game, it feels like officials are ruining games.

Quite simply, Forest have had enough. Their social media vent of frustration wasn’t ideal but three incidents in one game is just unacceptable.

The Reds now have to get on with things and prepare for the final four games of the season in the best possible fashion.

Ultimately, Forest didn’t play particularly well yesterday and all Nuno Espirito Santo can do now is control the controllable.

Hopefully, Forest can get a decision or two in their favour in the coming weeks but we’re not holding our breath after the farcical moments during yesterday’s game.
