‘For the moment’: Carlos Sainz’s manager now shares whether his 2025 F1 seat will be confirmed before Miami

The future of Carlos Sainz is going to have a huge impact on the rest of the Formula 1 driver’s market and his manager – Carlos Onoro Sainz – has now provided an update on his thinking.

The latest seat to be filled for 2025 was at Aston Martin as Fernando Alonso committed his future to the team.

Speaking on the F1 Nation Podcast, journalist Tom Clarkson quizzed Onoro on where the three-time race winner might end up next year.

Carlos Sainz’s manager discusses his Formula 1 future

It’s been a season to remember for Carlos Sainz even if it started on a particularly sour note.

It’s not often that drivers head into the opening race of the season already knowing that they’ve lost their seat on the grid the following year.

That’s exactly what happened to Sainz but he’s used that disappointment to fuel his excellent displays this year.

Podium finishes in Bahrain and Japan sandwiched appendix surgery in Saudi Arabia and a magnificent race win in Australia.

For the first time this season in China, Sainz finished a Grand Prix outside the top three, with Lando Norris extracting every ounce of potential from his McLaren.

Carlos Sainz’s future is still one of the biggest talking points in the paddock and his manager has shared whether or not it will be decided by the time F1 heads to Miami in two weeks.

The 29-year-old is keen to have a seat confirmed sooner rather than later, although that doesn’t line up with Red Bull’s plans.

He may also be looking at teaming up with George Russell at Mercedes for 2025.

However, it appears as though Toto Wolff is keen to give Italian teenager Andrea Kimi Antonelli as much time as possible to see if he’ll be ready to make the huge step up to Formula 1 next year.

Carlos Sainz faces anxious wait over his next F1 seat

Speaking about the driver’s market, Carlos Onoro said: “Let’s say, it’s an interesting period of time at the moment.

“The driver market has been all over the place lately and I think we will see some movement in the upcoming weeks but for the moment, the juggling continues.”

Asked if we’ll hear anything before the Miami Grand Prix, Onoro added: “No, no, no! You can sleep well between China and Miami don’t worry!

“There will be no big news at least coming from us, we’re still playing the game so we’ll see.”

Who could Carlos Sainz drive for in 2025?

While Carlos Sainz’s manager is being coy over his Formula 1 future, there are a few obvious landing spots for him in 2025.

The most desirable would be Red Bull considering they’ll almost certainly be the frontrunners again next season.

Whether Max Verstappen’s camp would want a driver as quick as Sainz in the other car is another matter and they may have a big say on who takes that seat.

Mercedes might opt for Sainz if they’re unsure whether Antonelli is ready and could instead place the 17-year-old in a Williams.

However, James Vowles’s outfit are also interested in Sainz and have been talking to his management since last year.

The most likely destination is Audi, who have made Sainz their number one target and want him to lead the team when they officially join the grid in 2026.

That would mean having to suffer through a season in a Sauber that has yet to score a point in 2024, although Sainz is a faster driver than Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu.
