Report: Sunderland's latest stance on Will Still confirmed following mysterious social media post

Sunderland are still on the lookout for their next manager, with Mike Dodds now struggling at the helm.

Sunderland fans were critical of Dodds following the most recent defeat.

Millwall won 1-0 on Wearside last weekend, leaving Sunderland with just one win in five and Dodds with only two wins in 11 games as interim boss.

Michael Beale was sacked in February following just 12 games in charge.

Several names have been linked with the job at the Stadium of Light, including Reims boss Will Still.

Reims handed Still the job on a permanent basis after he guided the club to an 18-game unbeaten run last year.

Now nearing the end of his first full season in charge of the Ligue 1 club, Reims are falling off somewhat, having lost their last two and having won just one of their last seven in the league.

Still’s men sit in 10th place of the table and are now six points away from a top six finish which would qualify them for European football next season.

Still is Sunderland’s ideal next manager, though the compensation fee may well put Kyril Louis-Dreyfus off.

It’s reported that Still would cost whoever wants to poach him from Reims more than £4million.

But an emerging report from Sport Witness says that Still ‘very much remains in the picture to take the permanent Sunderland job’.

Reims are still looking for potential replacements for the 31-year-old and have identified former Newcastle United man Habib Beye as a potential successor.

This comes less than a week after Still posted a mysterious message on Instagram; a picture of himself with the caption: ‘Que sera, sera’.

Could Sunderland pay out Reims for Will Still

£4million for a manager seems like a lot.

But in modern football, paying more and more for a manager is becoming the norm.

Per reports, the biggest ever compensation fee paid for a manager was when Chelsea spent £15million to take Graham Potter from Chelsea.

Of course, Sunderland aren’t on the same level as Chelsea financially.

But it remains that the Black Cats could be in for a huge summer in the transfer market.

A number of players could leave and net the club a lot of money, Jack Clarke being the likeliest, and so there looks set to be some spending money.

Kristjaan Speakman and Louis-Dreyfus have preferred out of work managers in the past, but now they really need to show the fans their determination and ambition for the future with a top appointment.

Most fans want to see Still come in but accept that the club might not pay him out of Reims.

But with Still remaining a man of interest on Wearside, it tells us that Sunderland could well be ready to pay the £4million to bring him over this summer.
