Electrical failure causes train delays through Cambridge

Rail passengers are being urged to check their train journeys after an electrical fault disrupted some services through Cambridge and Ely earlier today.

Network Rail said there had been an earlier failure of the electricity supply on the Great Northern and Thameslink routes, as well as a points failure at Cambridge.

Greater Anglia is warning of delayed journeys

Although the electrical supply problems have now been resolved, a greater Anglia Spokesperson explained: “Trains will have to run at a slower and safer speed around the points until response teams can attend and rectify the issue.

“Unfortunately this has resulted in congestion in the Cambridge area and our trains have been disrupted. Please check your journey.”

The routes affected by the delays are:

• Ely / Cambridge North / Cambridge - London Liverpool Street

• Norwich - Cambridge / Stansted Airport
