Celtic and Manchester United set for unavoidable cup finals TV clash

Celtic fans will be excited for a return to Hampden against Rangers in the Scottish Cup final following a nerve-shredding penalty shootout victory against Aberdeen in the last four.

Brendan Rodgers has never lost in the competition, having won 16 matches on the trot, and it would take a brave man to predict the Irishman losing his streak with silverware at stake on May 25th.

Ticket details are yet to be announced; however, we do know that both the BBC and Premier Sports have TV rights to show all of the action.

First of all, Scottish Premiership duty will take precedence at Parkhead, with five crucial post-split fixtures against Dundee, Heart of Midlothian, Rangers, Kilmarnock, and St Mirren standing between Celtic and a third successive league title.

Nevertheless, excitement for the showpiece occasion on Glasgow’s southside is brewing. Coinciding with the 57th anniversary of the Lisbon Lions’ famous European Cup triumph, it promises to be a special day at Hampden for anyone of a green and white persuasion.

Fan group collective North Curve Celtic have also teased plans for a mass gathering of supporters before the match, which 67 Hail Hail will update fans on as details emerge.

Last year, there was a clash between Celtic’s Scottish Cup triumph over Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Manchester City’s FA Cup victory at Wembley against Manchester United, with the former being moved to a 5.30 p.m. kick-off, much to the dismay of the Bhoys at the time, who released an official statement.

Now, we could be set for a fresh set of circumstances that could put the Scottish Cup final on a collision course with our acquaintances down south.

Celtic could be at the centre of Scottish Cup final TV clash

Per The Daily Mail, the Scottish Cup and FA Cup equivalent are set to go head-to-head for the 3 p.m. kick-off slot on Saturday, May 25th.

The outlet claim there is no appetite for a repeat scenario of last year, where Celtic vs Inverness was moved to avoid clashing with events in London following a request from the BBC.

Later this week, the FA Cup final is expected to be granted a 3 p.m. slot following talks between the FA, police, BBC, ITV, and Brent Council. The Metropolitan Police favour the mid-afternoon slot due to the potential for crowd trouble in the Manchester Derby.

Police Scotland are also reluctant for a later kick-off in the Scottish Cup showpiece, as Celtic and Rangers face each other in the competition’s last stage for the first time since 2002.

It is unclear whether our match will remain in position or be moved once again, though, from initial reports, there is a smaller likelihood of that happening than in 2023.

Unfortunately, Celtic will have to play a waiting game to find out what the footballing authorities decide upon as the unavoidable friction with Manchester United vs Manchester City takes centre stage.
