Journalist says 40-year-old manager will definitely not be joining Liverpool this summer

There’s another candidate Liverpool fans can tick off the list of potential managers to succeed Jurgen Klopp according to the latest reports.

It’s been hard to keep up with what is going on at the moment around Liverpool’s managerial search. The media is rife with speculation, but the reality is none of us truly know what is really going on right now.

What is clear is that Ruben Amorim went to London yesterday and held a meeting with West Ham. This doesn’t rule him out for the Liverpool job, although it does seem like it’s unlikely he will be the candidate to succeed Klopp.

But if not Amorim, then who? That’s the question many Liverpool fans have been asking, and there’s been a plethora of names who have been thrown into the mix.

James Pearce’s latest report on Gary O’Neil

One of those names thrown in the mix has been Wolverhampton manager Gary O’Neil. The 40-year-old is definitely one of the brightest young managers in England at the moment.

He’s done a really good job at Wolverhampton, but his name being linked with such a big club is a surprise. He’s clearly not quite ready for that just yet.

And it seems he won’t be moving to Liverpool any time soon. According to James Pearce’s post on his X account, O’Neil is not under consideration for the job at Liverpool.

Could Gary O’Neil manage Liverpool in the future?

While the Liverpool job is too early for him at the moment,O’Neil could definitely be a candidate for the Liverpool job in the future.

He’s already worked at the club before as an assistant manager to Barry Lewtas at Liverpool’s U21 side.

He also holds a good working relationship with both Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards, stemming from the time they spent at Portsmouth together.

It was Edwards who helped O’Neil land the Liverpool job when he was starting out in his managerial career.

He also worked under Hughes at Bournemouth. So a future reunion definitely should not be ruled out if O’Neil continues to impress in the Premier League.
