'I don't see him as an Arsenal player': Jeff Stelling says £40m player should sign for Tottenham this summer

Arsenal and Tottenham are both likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer.

The Gunners need that clinical number nine, and Spurs still haven’t properly replaced Harry Kane.

Indeed, both north London clubs will be in for a new striker this summer, and, as you can imagine, both sides may be fishing in similar ponds.

There are a number of strikers who have been linked to both sides, but perhaps the most interesting player linked to both Tottenham and Arsenal is Ivan Toney.

Speaking on TalkSPORT, Jeff Stelling has been discussing Toney’s future, and he says he should join Tottenham rather than Arsenal.

Ivan Toney should join Tottenham

Stelling spoke about Toney’s future alongside Ally McCoist, claiming he should join Tottenham.

“My next thought is about Ivan Toney. We know, we know, I don’t need to be worried about being disrespectful because we know he is going to be on the move. We were talking about Spurs for Eberechi Eze, but Ivan Toney. No, I don’t see him as an Arsenal player, I don’t see him joining any of the top four as they are now,” Stelling said.

“Manchester United, for sure, because Rasmus Hojlund, he is going to go on and be a good footballer, and I think we would all agree with that, but right now, you know, he is learning his trade. Toney is pretty much the finished article, but I think the obvious choice for Ivan Toney is Tottenham. “

“I think if they want somebody who is the nearest thing you can get to a Harry Kane, who can influence the game in all areas of the pitch, who scores goals as well, come deep, he can lead the line brilliantly.”

“Don’t disagree. What about Chelsea?” McCoist replied.

“If I am him, I am just thinking that Spurs would be a better bet, but again, you know, Spurs, they can’t go and buy everybody, can’t they?” Stelling said.

Tottenham makes the most sense for Ivan Toney

Ivan Toney has been linked with a move away from Brentford for a long time, and now, with a decisive transfer window around the corner, it has to be said that a move to Spurs could make the most sense.

Indeed, Tottenham need a striker of Toney’s mould, and, as Stelling says, there aren’t many other teams in the top four who need a player like Toney.

Arsenal are there, of course, but there’s been consistent chat about Arsenal not fancying Toney as a person, so it may be unlikely that they sign him.

Toney is certainly a player to keep an eye on heading into the summer.
