Jeff Stelling says Tottenham are more likely to sign ‘fantastic’ £70m player over Manchester City

Tottenham Hotspur have now been named as a more likely landing spot for a £70m player this summer by TalkSPORT’s Jeff Stelling.

The Lilywhites were not in action over the weekend after Manchester City’s participation in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Ange Postecoglou‘s side now have the North London Derby to look forward to this weekend with Arsenal coming to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This summer’s transfer window is now just around the corner but there is still a lot to be decided at Tottenham going into the market.

Although targets are unlikely to change, the money available to be spent could be affected by what level of European football Spurs qualify for.

Postecoglou’s men are still well in the hunt for Champions League qualification but Aston Villa’s recent results have left very little room for error.

Regardless of what Spurs do over the coming weeks, Stelling has tipped the north London club as a more likely destination than Manchester City for a 25-year-old player this summer.

Tottenham tipped ahead of Manchester City to land 25-year-old

The business done by Daniel Levy and Postecoglou over the last 12 months has been rather impressive.

Players like Micky van de Ven and Guglielmo Vicario have shone a much more positive light on the Tottenham recruitment team.

The success rate on players brought into the club looks to have been massively improved over the last couple of windows.

And this summer could see Postecoglou really add the finishing touches to his squad in north London.

The Spurs News have been informed that it will be a summer where the club look for quality rather than quantity with Postecoglou now onto his third window.

One of the players who is said to be on Tottenham’s radar is Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.

The 25-year-old is believed to be alongside the likes of Pedro Neto in Tottenham’s desire to provide Postecoglou with more quality up top.

Speaking on TalkSPORT earlier today, Stelling has admitted he can see Spurs landing the Englishman ahead of City who are also said to be keen.

“Let’s be realistic about this. The chances are that he is considering moving on. He is 26 years of age or he will be by the start of next season,” Stelling said.

“He is being linked with Spurs and Manchester City, and he is a brilliant player. He is comfortable on the ball, he has got fantastic awareness, he has got fantastic vision, he gives teams something different, and Palace fans, they will know in their heart of hearts that the big boys are going to be looking at him.”

“I think Spurs is a more likely position for him, but then how much Spurs are going to have? Palace want £70 million for him, which is a lot of money, but he is under contract until 2027,” he added.

“I think he will be on the move during the course of the summer, and, with all due respect, because I have been disrespectful, I have been told off this morning, with all due respect, we know that a club like Palace from time to time will need to sell their players.”

Interesting stats that show Eberechi Eze would improve Tottenham

Spurs do have some solid options in attack with Heung-min Son, Timo Werner and Brennan Johnson.

However, Eze could prove to be a real upgrade on some of those players as Spurs look to compete in Europe next term.

Here is how the 25-year-old has compared this season.

Of course, dislodging Son from the side is going to be unlikely, but the South Korean may need to be rotated more frequently with European football to consider.

And there has certainly been no decision made as of yet with Werner as Spurs are now looking at a fresh option for the German.
