‘The best’: Brighton CEO says £378k-a-week man makes Man City better than anyone else

Brighton & Hove Albion CEO, Paul Barber, has shared what makes Manchester City different from any other Premier League side.

The two sides are set to face off against each other on Thursday for their second Premier League meeting of the season.

Ahead of this game at the AMEX Stadium, Brighton’s chief executive has shared his thoughts on the Manchester club and what puts them above some of the other top sides in the Premier League.

Speaking in a recent episode of Men In Blazers, Barber had this to say about City and what makes them separate from the other big sides in the Premier League.

He said: “If I look back over the last seven years in the Premier League, we’ve beaten every one of those bigger clubs, in almost every case, home and away.

“Only Manchester City have we not beaten away from home, but Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, Manchester United, we’ve beaten all of them, home and away, more than once.

“From that point of view, it shows that we are competing at the highest level.

“We’ve beaten Manchester City once, but we always give Manchester City a good game, and they are, at the moment, the best team in the world.

“Liverpool and Arsenal are pretty close, but City remain the best team in the world for sure, and they’ve got the best coach in the world.

“So for us to be able to go toe to toe with teams like that shows that that spirit and that culture and those strong values and that belief does give you a chance in professional sport, even if you don’t have the same quality squad or the same resources.”

Barber recognises Pep Guardiola’s greatness

Since Pep Guardiola took the reins at the Etihad Stadium, City have won five Premier League titles, two FA Cups, four League Cups, one Champions League, one UEFA SuperCup and one FIFA Club World Cup.

Out of the 465 games the Spaniard has overlooked with City, they have won 343, drawn 57 and lost 65.

After winning five trophies in 2023, Guardiola, who is picking up a weekly wage of £378k-a-week, was named as UEFA’s Best Men’s Coach.

Having been successful in his previous managerial positions with Barcelona and Bayern Munich, it’s easy to see why Barber thinks the City boss is the best at what he does in world football.

Moving forward, everyone at the club will be hoping that Guardiola can mastermind his side to another victory over the Seagulls and eventually lift the Premier League trophy once again next month.
