'He needs to learn': Maresca reveals what Abdul Fatawu needs to improve on after Southampton win

Leicester City are on the verge of securing promotion back to the Premier League after thrashing Southampton 5-0 on Tuesday evening.

The East Midlanders produced their best performance of the season and Abdul Fatawu stole the show after netting a hat-trick, taking his tally to seven across all competitions.

The fleet-footed Ghanian was almost unplayable at times with his second strike the pick of the bunch, curling home a long-range stunner.

Though, speaking post-match, Enzo Maresca revealed what he can improve on.

Maresca was full of praise for his hat-trick hero speaking to BBC Radio Leicester but did joke that he’ll be starting the next two games on the bench.

“The problem with young players is they are up and down,” the Italian head coach said.

“But I just said to him that the next two games he’s going to be on the bench.

“So he’s not going to play because otherwise, he starts to shoot from everywhere because he scored.“

Admittedly, Fatawu is still very raw and his decision-making needs to be worked on, as Maresca alluded to.

However, there is little doubt of his supreme talent and if can just sharpen that area of his game, as he did against Southampton, he has the potential to cause all sorts of problems in the Premier League, if Leicester do indeed get there.

Leicester City must stay level-headed

It was very much a party atmosphere at King Power Stadium and many feel The Foxes are already up.

But Maresca must keep his players level-headed as the job is not done yet, they must prepare in the right way for Preston North End on Monday evening.

With Leeds United and Ipswich Town still on their tails, there is little room for error and they can’t afford to become complacent after their thumping victory against The Saints.

City must use it as momentum and replicate a similar performance when they travel to Lancashire, or else they could be dragged right back into it.

Notwithstanding that, they’ve put themselves in pole position and top-flight football is within touching distance.

A huge week awaits the East Midlanders.
