Jeff Stelling says Tottenham could sign the closest thing to Harry Kane with £30m striker this summer

TalkSPORT host Jeff Stelling has now said Tottenham Hotspur could find their Harry Kane successor with 28-year-old this summer.

Since Daniel Levy made the call to appoint Ange Postecoglou in north London, the pair have brought in a number of new faces.

However, the club was having to deal with the sale of the club’s record goalscorer in Harry Kane.

Replacing the man who had scored so many goals for Tottenham was never going to happen, but Spurs did not even look to bring in a big name striker.

Instead, Spurs signed youngster Alejo Veliz and gave Richarlison an opportunity up top.

It has certainly been a mixed bag of a season for the Brazilian striker and the expectation is now for Spurs to bring in a new name up top.

And the TalkSPORT man has identified a player who he thinks could fit the billing for Tottenham and could only cost them in the region of £30m.

Jeff Stelling says 28-year-old is the closest thing to Harry Kane Spurs could get

Heung-min Son has been forced to play through the middle for large chunks of the season due to Richarlison’s injury issues.

Although the Brazilian has shown improved form in front of goal this season, his ability to remain fit has been a major concern.

There have been games where Son has been able to get in behind the opposition’s backline but when he is forced to hold the ball up it is apparent Spurs are in need of an out and out striker.

The South Korean may lead the scoring charts at Spurs, however, he is perhaps being compromised from offering even more from his natural position out wide.

Tottenham are being linked with a number of strikers going into the summer transfer window and one of them is Ivan Toney.

The Brentford striker is expected to move on over the coming months and could potentially be available for as little as £30m.

Speaking on TalkSPORT yesterday, Stelling admitted he thinks the Englishman could be an ideal replacement for Kane at Spurs.

“My next thought is about Ivan Toney. We know, we know, I don’t need to be worried about being disrespectful because we know he is going to be on the move,” he said.

“We were talking about Spurs for Eberechi Eze, but Ivan Toney. No, I don’t see him as an Arsenal player, I don’t see him joining any of the top four as they are now. Manchester United, for sure, because Rasmus Hojlund, he is going to go on and be a good footballer, and I think we would all agree with that, but right now, you know, he is learning his trade.

“Toney is pretty much the finished article, but I think the obvious choice for Ivan Toney is Tottenham. I think if they want somebody who is the nearest thing you can get to a Harry Kane, who can influence the game in all areas of the pitch, who scores goals as well, come deep, he can lead the line brilliantly.”

Interesting stats that show Ivan Toney could be a solid Harry Kane replacement

It has been a difficult term for Toney this time around following his lengthy ban which saw him return halfway through the campaign.

However, last season provided a much better view of the England international’s ability with a full season in the Premier League under his belt.

Here is a summary of how Toney compared to Kane over the 2022/23 season.

But his return from his lengthy ban may cause Spurs some concerns ahead of the summer on top of the fact he is already 28-year-old.

Perhaps Toney could offer Spurs a good replacement for Kane, but maybe there is a younger, long-term option that may be better suited out there.
