'Rock bottom': BBC pundit now claims 22-year-old Chelsea player has lost his confidence after Arsenal defeat

Chelsea seem to have lost their eye for goal again.

They failed to score against Arsenal last night, losing 5-0 at the Emirates, and could not convert in their previous match versus Manchester City.

Outside of Cole Palmer, Chelsea‘s attackers have not been too prolific in front of goal this season.

Nicolas Jackson has not done too badly, scoring 10 times in the Premier League, though he has missed a lot of chances.

However, Mykhailo Mudryk has registered just four goals, while Raheem Sterling has only six to his name.

Glenn Murray fears Chelsea player has lost all of his confidence

After putting six past Everton and four past Manchester United, all of a sudden, the goals have dried up for Chelsea.

That was the case against Arsenal, with Jackson once again having a couple of really good opportunities to score.

Missing them, former Premier League striker Glenn Murray now feels that the 22-year-old is low on confidence.

Speaking about Jackson on BBC 5 Live Sport yesterday, Murray said: “I think after the criticism at the weekend and missing those opportunities, I think his confidence is literally rock bottom.

“In all fairness he has played quite well tonight, he has stretched the play, held the ball up well, but in front of goal he just seems to lack in confidence.”

Why Mauricio Pochettino had to start Nicolas Jackson against Arsenal

It is no surprise that Jackson is lacking confidence right now after his performance at Wembley, where he missed several opportunities against City in the FA Cup semi-finals.

Some managers probably would have taken him out for the next game

The problem is, though, the Senegal international is the only recognised centre-forward in Mauricio Pochettino‘s squad at present, which is kind of surprising given how much the club have spent on transfers in the last couple of years.

It means that Pochettino has no choice but to start Jackson every game, even when he is not firing.
