Arsenal now break all-time top-flight record following 5-0 victory over Chelsea

Arsenal strolled to an outstanding 5-0 victory over Chelsea to continue their Premier League title challenge, and they broke several records in the process.

An early goal from Leandro Trossard was followed by second-half braces by Kai Havertz and Ben White, with the latter scoring the first double of his career.

This result meant Arsenal are now three points clear of Liverpool ahead of their clash with Everton, and four points above Manchester City, who have played two games less, in what is a close title race.

Arsenal may not be favourites for the title given Man City’s games in hand, but they may consider themselves the best team in the division this year, given the form they have been in with just one league defeat since December.

Mikel Arteta’s side have thrashed teams on several occasions, with this 5-0 victory over Chelsea the latest in a long line of results which have boosted Arsenal’s goal difference, and it meant they accomplished what no other London side has before.

Arsenal’s victory over their London rivals Chelsea saw them score five or more goals in a London derby again this season.

This is the third time Arsenal managed such a feat, after beating Crystal Palace 5-0 at home in January, and thrashing West Ham 6-0 at the London Stadium in February.

Winning three London derbies by five or more goals in one season is truly unheard of, and no one in the history of the top flight has ever managed such a feat until now.

Arsenal’s record in London derbies this season

Arsenal have just one London derby remaining this season, with a crucial game away at Tottenham Hotspur this weekend, but given their strong record against sides in the capital, they will hope to get the better of their bitter rivals.

The Gunners drew 2-2 with Spurs in September after throwing away the lead twice, and they did lose 2-0 at home to West Ham in December, which was followed up by an away defeat to Fulham, whom they also drew with in August.

However, Arsenal have otherwise been strong in London derbies, beating Crystal Palace and Brentford both home and away, and the three heavy victories have never been achieved by any other London side in one season.
