Newcastle in the market for a defender

Newcastle are set to be a side active in the summer transfer market, in both areas.

Whilst they need to sell to combat FFP restrictions, the Magpies also need to bring in some new recruits around St James’ Park after what was a rather lacklustre campaign.

This includes the backline, where it appears the Toon are leading the race for a mega-talented defender.

Eddie Howe needs to strengthen in certain areas…

Elsewhere in the transfer market, Eddie Howe will be trying to strengthen other areas.

A lot depends on the outgoings, but the Newcastle manager should definitely be focusing on certain aspects of the first-team squad rather than others.

This is why a Premier League star from Chelsea, despite being a very good player, actually wouldn’t be a great idea…

Dan Ashworth – the first outgoing?

Speaking of outgoings, there’s already one Newcastle man who’s seemingly packed his bags away from Tyneside – that’s Dan Ashworth. He wants to swap black and white for the red of Manchester United.

But the Magpies are not going to just let the Red Devils take their current sporting director without a hefty fee. They want to be heavily compensated and are looking to receive £20m.

Erik ten Hag’s side does not want to pay that… here’s why.

A new number nine of Tyneside?

Finally, with Callum Wilson‘s future at the Newcastle United Training Centre looking more and more uncertain with each passing day – it’s time to start identifying number nines.

The burning issue, there aren’t many in world football – and if they are available, they’re going to cost an absolute bomb.

They’ll also likely have to compete with other sides desperate for a talisman. Newcastle are looking at one option, but it appears he’s keen on heading to Stamford Bridge.
