Report: Man City behind PL rival in transfer chase for £55m star, they have one 'crucial advantage'

Manchester City have been linked with a move for Eberechi Eze – but face competition from a Premier League rival, who have a big advantage in the race.

City have admired Eze for a while, and were strongly linked with him last summer.

In the end, the club swooped for Matheus Nunes, and Eze remained at Crystal Palace where he has thrived once again this term.

Eze though, could well be on the move this summer, with his performances drawing a lot of attention.

City are said to be in the mix to sign the 25-year-old but Pep Guardiola and Txiki Begiristain will have their work cut out to sign him if they want him.

That’s because another Premier League club have a big edge over the star…

It has been reported today by Football Transfers that City hold an interest in Eze, but at the moment Tottenham Hotspur look to be the club the most serious about signing him.

They say Spurs have actually invited members of Eze’s family as special guests of the club to the North London Derby on Sunday against Arsenal.

They are ready to step up their pursuit of the attacking midfielder ‘imminently’.

Interestingly, it is suggested that Spurs hold one crucial advantage over City in the race for Eze, which is that the player was born in Greenwich, London. Eze would apparently prefer a move to Spurs over City ‘because of family ties’.

It is mentioned that Eze is likely to cost somewhere in the region of £55 million, which should not be an issue for Spurs who are said to have a budget of £200-250 million this summer.

Eze a top player but could be a non-starter

So it looks like Spurs could be the most likely next destination for Eze, and they’ll be keen to get him and make a statement.

Eze is a serious talent and could well become one of the top attacking midfielders in the Premier League with better players around him.

This may well just be a non-starter for City. It would be a convenient move for the player to make, and Spurs are a much-improved side these days under Ange Postecoglou.

City would probably have more need for Eze’s teammate Michael Olise, who was recently linked again. The star is a right winger, who can also play centrally. He would potentially make for a good replacement for Bernardo Silva, who has been tipped to leave this summer.
