Arsenal legend Paul Merson has predicted who will win this weekend between the Gunners and Tottenham in the North London Derby.

Mikel Arteta’s side head into this weekend’s massive Premier League tie off the back of one of their best results this season after beating Chelsea 5-0 at the Emirates Stadium thanks to the genius of Martin Odegaard.

With Chelsea fans even praising Kai Havertz, it was a special performance from Arsenal as the north London giants reclaimed top spot at the time of writing with Liverpool and Manchester City all due to play later this week.

And Merson has now predicted how Arsenal will do against Tottenham.

Paul Merson tips Arsenal’s to beat Tottenham in the North London Derby

Speaking on the Spurs Chat Podcast, the Arsenal legend tipped his former club to beat Tottenham, with a win on Sunday potentially making Arteta’s side favourites for the Premier League title heading into the final month of the season.

This weekend’s trip to Tottenham is easily Arsenal’s hardest remaining game of the campaign, and the Gunners overcoming their north London rivals will be huge in the Gunners claiming their first league title in 20 years.

Merson said when asked who he thinks will win this weekend between Arsenal and Tottenham: “I think Arsenal win and I only say that because I think Arsenal’s midfield is stronger than Tottenham’s.

“I think it will be a gung-ho football match where Arsenal have a shot and Arsenal have a shot, but I think Arsenal’s midfield, Arsenal just win the game. It will be a hard game.”

Arsenal need to deliver their best performance of the season on Sunday

Arsenal have been sensational in 2024, with last night’s win against Chelsea arguably the performance of the year for the north London side heading into their last four games of the season.

Yet if the Gunners are to beat Tottenham away from home, they might have to go one step better than Tuesday’s win against Chelsea, with Spurs viewing this fixture as make-or-break for their own season.

With so much on the line, Arsenal are aware that a win is needed if they’re to keep their Premier League dream alive, with Tottenham waiting to crash the party and to ruin Arteta’s hopes.
