Mauricio Pochettino now needs to drop 'world-class' Chelsea player after display vs Arsenal last night - opinion

Mauricio Pochettino will have been one of the many involved in last night’s Chelsea game that was embarrased with what he had seen.

The Blues were beaten 5-0 by Arsenal at the Emirates, with their hopes at qualifying for Europe fading even further into the distance.

Chelsea had a chance to prove that they were way more than just a team being carried right now by Cole Palmer, however his absence will have only reminded supporters of his brilliance and how much they will miss him when he isn’t fit.

Chelsea miss Palmer badly in Arsenal loss

While a lot of the changes came at the back from the side who fought well against Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final, it was only Mykhailo Mudryk in for the ill Palmer.

This saw the same midfield start the game, with Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo starting alongside each other.

The former was subbed off early in the second half after what is fair to say had been a rough outing for the World Cup winner.

It seems as if his quality has really dropped off in recent weeks, with him looking way off the pace since a recent injury woe kept him out of the big win against Everton.

Enzo Fernandez needs to be rested

Reports have claimed that Fernandez is suffering with a bit of an ongoing concern at the minute, with him potentially requiring surgery in order to put the issue to bed once and for all.

Considering he was putting in displays earlier in 2024 being described as ‘world-class’ by opposing players, it feels as if he definitely has the quality to be a key player in this Chelsea project going forwards.

However, right now it feels the best thing that can be done is for him to be taken out of the starting side for now, with a duo of Conor Gallagher and Caicedo performing brilliantly together in his absence recently.
